Tech's Day 11 in Black History: X-men

That's right the X-men came straight out of Black History during the Civil Rights movement. Mutants represented African Americans while Professor X was based off Martin Luther King Jr. and Magneto was based off of Malcolm X.

Mutants were discriminated against because they either looked different or had abilities that caused others to fear them.  They live in a world that hates them.  Two friends wanted what was best for their people; one wanted everyone to live as equals and in peace while the other wanted to fight for the respect that they deserved.

Even with a majority of the characters being white, you knew the story that was being told.

Now, Marvel has never said this was the case nor denied this claim.  You find plenty of interviews and articles on the subject that argue for and against this assumption.  With the date and the timing I am on the side that this was this case.
