Tech's Day 14 in Black History: Happy Single Awareness Day
Yea, Yea its the 14th of February a day for the lovers and a day for the single to reminded that they are single. Well, February 14th is also the birthday of these African Americans:
Frederick Douglass
Born in 1817. Black abolitionist, orator, and writer who escaped slavery to become one of the most influential African American's in the 19th century. Hmmm, I wonder if our president sent him a birthday card.....
Gregory Hines
Born on this day in 1946. He was a tap dancer, choreographer, actor, voice actor, singer, and director. He started his career when he was just toddler.
Moneta Sleet
Born in 1926, was a photographer at Ebony magazine where he covered many major moments of the Civil Rights Movement. In 1969 he was the first African American to receive a Pulitzer Prize in journalism for his photo of Coretta Scott king at her husband's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Richard Allen
Born a slave 1760, he was a religious leader and founder and first bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church.
Oliver Harrington
Born in 1913, He was a cartoonist who drew and wrote the first black comic strip to receive national recognition with his most famous character Bootsie.
